London Marathon

Did you know in 1981 the first official London Marathon was run by 7,590 people, after organisers received over 20,000 applicants. American Dick Beardsley and Norwegian Inge Simonsen were first over the line – they won the men’s title holding hands. Twenty-two of the original runners – the ‘ever presents’ – are still competing.*

How fantastic is that? For nearly 29 years now, people have been running 26 miles 385 yards to raise money for various charities. This year saw approximately 36,000 people running/jogging/gasping/pushing on mile after mile.

30 Years On.

Next year will be the 30th official year for the London Marathon, and I understand there will be some one running that you may know. Someone that you guys helped to get a job. This person will be raising a few quid for a charity.

A Marathon Runner

Here’s the thing; What charity does this person run for? This is what the thinking process is right now. Below is a list of charities, I would ideally like you to comment/vote with which one you think he should run for. All votes between now and and 30th April will be counted and over the Bank Holiday weekend will be totalled.

The ballot for the 2011 London Marathon opens on the 4th May 2010, so once the votes are totalled, I shall contact the chosen charity and register my interest to run for them…yes, that’s right. I am going to attempt the London Marathon 2011

Charities

  • BLISS – for premature babies; both of our boys were premature so this is a favourite of ours.
  • British Red Cross – A long standing charity that always reminds me of how Great Britain can be!
  • NSPCC – Anything that can raise money to help kids is always in my list!
  • Oxfam – the official 2011 London Marathon charity.
  • EACH – Continueing to raise awareness for this wonderful charity!!
  • Or recommend me another!!!

Thank you.

Thank for voting, please forward the link of this blog post to your friends – your vote will count!
